Hilton House SurgeryEXCITING TIMES - NEWS 11.01.2019

Hilton House Surgery and The Castle Surgery have always worked closely together to supply a good quality of health care to the Hedingham villages and surrounding area.  We are always looking for ways to strengthen the health provision in the area and protect General Practice services in the future as things became increasingly tough for GP services in general.

Because of this the Hilton House Surgery and The Castle Surgery plan to merge and run as one practice, from April 2019, to be called Hedingham Medical Centre. This will result in a smoother service for patients and improved access to the medical team once the initial set up period is over.  We plan to run at the existing three sites with the same staff, but we are looking to build new premises on the Premdor site, to allow for expansion over time and allow for extra services to be added as needed.  This will probably take a couple of years to build.

The Doctors at both sites are looking forward to working together and aspire to continue to provide the highest level of service at Hedingham Medical Centre.

Initially, you will not notice any changes and should continue to use your existing practice as normal.

If you would like to keep up to date with news of the changes and developments you can visit our websites regularly for news at or or follow us on Twitter @HedinghamCares

In response to one of the queries we have had so far: there is land earmarked for us adjacent to the office block in Sible Hedingham. We are working closely, and have been for several years, to develop a new Surgery on this site. The office block is ring fenced as a hub for "new business" and not available for development into a Surgery.

We will keep you informed and seek your views on a regular basis in the coming months.

At Hilton House surgery in Sible Hedingham the doctors and nurses take pride in offering the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare. We are a three doctor dispensing practice based in rural Essex and we provide medical services to a patient base of approximately 3,800, covering the rural areas around the Hedinghams and Yeldhams.

We hold surgeries at our main surgery in Sible Hedingham and our branch surgery in Gt Yeldham, the times of which can be found in our Opening Hours page. The surgery has access to a wide range of services.

We place great emphasis on our team spirit and work together to offer you, the patient, care of the highest quality. We work to best practice at all times, and this is backed by our consistently high achievements within the Government’s Quality and Outcomes Framework.

Non-prescribing of Over the Counter Medicines - wef 1st November 2018

NHS England had advised Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group that they must encourage all member practices to reduce the money spent on prescribing OTC (Over the counter ) Medicines.

Many OTC medicines are surprisingly cheap - for example a month of cetirizine (hay fever tablets) can cost as little as £1.99. We feel that it is right to support this cost saving initiative in order that money saved can be used to fund more vital patient care.

In the first instance, we will no longer be prescribing the following medicines to patients aged 18 years old and over: cetirizine & loratadine tablets and sodium cromoglicate eye drops. You will need to buy these from a community chemist/pharmacy/supermarket or use a reputable on-line pharmacy in future.

Part of this initiative is cost saving and part of it is about empowering patients to manage their own self-limiting conditions/minor ailments, with the help of a community pharmacist if required. This can also help free up valuable GP appointments at the surgery.

NOTE:  " Some patients may receive a phone call from the Stop Smoking Support Team to ask patients of their smoking status and whether they require help quitting. The Stop Smoking Support Team are working with Hilton House Surgery and their calls are genuine".
